Kenneth P. LaValle

January 23, 2013

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle is seeking nominations from the First Senate District for the New York State Senate’s 15th Annual Women of Distinction celebration.   The event honors exceptional achievement, personal excellence, and outstanding, courageous, or heroic actions on the part of individual women from across the state.

“In past years, honorees have joined me at a special reception in Albany to accept the Women of Distinction award,” said Senator LaValle.  “Award recipients have had the opportunity to meet with a cross section of women from senate districts throughout New York whose hard work and dedication have helped enrich our state and communities.”

The Women of Distinction ceremony will be held at the Capitol in May.  Senator LaValle is asking for nominations of women living in the First Senatorial District who would be deserving of this award.  The First Senate District stretches from Port Jefferson to the East End (http://www.nysenate.gov/district/01).

Nominations can be made online from Senator LaValle’s website. Please follow all of the instructions on the nomination form. Your nomination is not complete until all required components are received.

All nominations must include a biography of at least 250 words and high resolution photograph.  Full instructions are contained in the on-line nomination form.

Last year's Woman of Distinction was Cutchogue’s Toni DeMeo, 89-years-young, a tireless community volunteer and leader who currently serves as a volunteer and director of volunteers at Greenport’s Eastern Long Island Hospital, a position she has held since 1995. DeMeo also serves  as the Chairperson of Volunteer Service and  is responsible for day-to-day scheduling, recruitment, interviewing, position assignment and overall supervision and training for all hospital volunteers.
