Senator Kevin Parker Announces the Creation of a Women’s Health Website

(Albany, NY)  Senator Kevin Parker (D-Brooklyn) today announced the recent passage of legislation that establishes a website that will provide updated information on women's health initiatives and on newly covered preventative health services.

“I am pleased my Senate colleagues and I took this major step forward for women’s health,” said Senator Parker. “Women are healthier when they can readily find information about new and existing preventative health services available to them. This new website will increase women’s access to such information and resources, while ultimately helping to  raise awareness among women.”

The federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act made several significant changes to public programs, insurance and other aspects of health policy that affect women's health. In 2010, these provisions took effect on the federal level and were implemented into state law, expanding coverage of certain preventative measures for women's health, such as pregnancy and maternal related services, STD treatment, domestic violence screening, and certain care for aging-related women’s health issues.

“No one can argue against providing New Yorkers with vital up-to-date health information, and improving their health,” Senator Parker concluded. “I look forward to enacting additional common sense legislation such as this to ensure all New Yorkers receive the information and assistance necessary to help them thrive.”
