(Brooklyn, NY) “I commend Governor Andrew Cuomo for nominating a superior jurist, Sheila Abdus-Salaam, for a position on New York’s highest court. Judge Abdus-Salaam is not only a talented and knowledgeable legal scholar, but she also understands the challenges of everyday New Yorkers.
In addition to her years of experience on the bench as a trial and appellate judge, Judge Abdus-Salaam also served as a legal aid attorney in Brooklyn after graduating from Columbia Law School, and was an Assistant Attorney General. Judge Abdus-Salaam will also be the first African-American woman, and first Muslim, to sit on the Court of Appeals once she is confirmed by the New York State Senate. I look forward to her confirmation hearing.”
