(Albany, NY) - Senator Malcolm A. Smith (D-Hollis) honored Ms. Emmlynn L. Taylor as his 2013 “Woman of Distinction,” an award given to outstanding women living and working in New York State whose contributions have enriched the quality of life in their community and beyond.
“Ms. Taylor exemplifies a true dedication to community service and a selfless devotion to helping others,” Smith said. “I am proud to honor her for all her outstanding, and much appreciated, volunteer work."
Never afraid to get involved, Taylor has dedicated her time to help the JFK Rotary Club, community activities for the Epsilon Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., The Carlton House and Make a Difference Christmas, just to name a few.
In addition, Taylor is involved with several community service projects including participating in an annual Christmas event at JFK Airport for children with disabilities and coordinating an annual Thanksgiving dinner for the children and families at P.S. 631 in Brooklyn, who live in homeless shelters near the school.
For her hard work, Taylor has received numerous awards including: a Paul Harris Fellow (Rotary Club), a 2009 Volunteer of the year Finalist (Capital One Bank), a Special Recognition Award (UBC Feeding Program) and the Precious Pearl Award (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.).
“The causes and people I support, I do so because I truly believe that it is our responsibility to help those less fortunate and in need, without expecting anything in return,” Taylor said. |
