Golden: Students to Compete for Title of “Senator for a Day”

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) will host his 11th Annual “State Senator for a Day” essay contest ceremonial event tomorrow, Friday, May 31, 2013, starting at 6 p.m., at the Shore Hill Community Room, 9000 Shore Road. Seventeen students from our local schools have been selected to participate and present their essays before a panel of judges.
Earlier this year, Senator Golden asked 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to participate in the contest by writing a 250-word essay starting with the phrase, “If I Were A State Senator For A Day.” The winning essays will be judged on content and creativity. The first place winner will be invited with their class to spend a day in the State Capitol in Albany.
The Judges for the event include: Joel Garson from Our News, Marc Hibsher from the Home Reporter, Paula Katinas from the Brooklyn Eagle, and Laurie Windsor, President, Community Education Council District 20. Members of the media are welcome.
