Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), is announcing that Public School 222 has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in the “Exemplary High Performing” category by the United States Department of Education. In its 31-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on nearly 7,500 of America’s schools.
The current principal, Theresa Oliveri and former principal, Louise Blake will be attending a ceremony to accept the award with only 236 other public schools nationwide, in Washington D.C. in November.
“It is an honor to represent such an outstanding school and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire Public School 222 community on this honor. Together, students, parents, teachers and administrators, have made this great honor possible. This is a great day for School District 22 and a great day for Marine Park,” said Senator Marty Golden.
“Excellence in education matters and we should honor the schools that are leading the way to prepare students for success in college and careers,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan “National Blue Ribbon schools represent examples of educational excellence, and their work reflects the belief that every child in America deserves a world-class education.”
