Senator Golden Pledges Support of “Pietro’s Fight” to Help Find a Cure for Dmd Effecting One in Every 3,500 Male Births

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) having recently met with Brooklyn parents Dayna and Mannie Scarso, is announcing plans to support the fight against and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and bring awareness to the fact that this disease effects one in every 3,500 male births. The Scarso’s recently met with Senator Golden to discuss their situation involving their 3 year old son Pietro.

 

Senator Golden will be introducing a resolution in the New York State Senate in honor of this mission of love and fight for a cure to bring about Statewide awareness. The Scarso Family will join Senator Golden in the State Senate chamber in the near future for a presentation so to aid in their efforts to encourage research so to bring about a cure.

 

Senator Marty Golden stated, “I proudly join as a partner in Pietro’s Fight so to help Pietro and others who have been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). New York City and State, and our Nation, must take steps to end the fact that this is the most common and lethal childhood genetic disorder in the world.”

 

Most children with DMD are confined to a wheelchair by the time they are 12 years of age, and pass away from respiratory complications caused by the disease in their late teens. To date, there is no acceptable treatment or cure for this disease.

 

A fundraising event billed as “Fight Night! Pietro vs. DMD” has been scheduled for March 7, 2013 at 7p.m. at the El Caribe.
