January 23, 2013

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is applauding the New York City Department of Transportation for their approval of a traffic light for the intersection of 83rd Street and Colonial Road. Senator Golden has, in the past, made a multitude of requests for a traffic signal at this heavily traveled intersection near both a high school and a playground.

Senator Golden stated, “I am so pleased to have been informed by the Department of Transportation that my most recent request for a traffic study at this location has warranted the specifications for a traffic light. We need to slow down traffic and make crossing Colonial Road safer for all of our Fort Hamilton High School students, our area residents, and our families who utilize Russell Pederson playground.”

Senator Golden had requested the traffic study this past May, and the traffic light will be installed by April 30th. Residents wishing to report a dangerous intersection should contact Senator Golden’s office at (718) 238-6044 or via email at golden@nysenate.gov.
