State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been selected to serve as Chairman of the New York State Senate Codes Committee. The Committee is one of the most important and active committees in the State Senate and has jurisdiction over all aspects of criminal justice policy.
“It is an honor for me to be given the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Codes Committee. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee to strengthen our State’s criminal justice laws and to work to protect our communities from violent criminals,” said Senator Nozzolio. Senator Nozzolio previously served as Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Committee.
Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos said, "Senator Nozzolio has tremendous experience on criminal justice issues and an outstanding record of fighting for laws to protect crime victims and punish criminals. I am confident that he will do a terrific job as Chair of the Codes Committee and ensuring that our state fulfills its responsibility to protect our families, homes and communities.”
“The opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Codes Committee is an important responsibility that I take very seriously. We need to continue to strive to find genuine, lasting solutions to eliminate violent crime in our communities. In this capacity I will continue my efforts to enact tougher sentencing laws for violent criminals, reinforce laws to protect women and children from domestic violence, combat drug use and trafficking, and strengthen the rights of crime victims," concluded Senator Nozzolio.
Senator Nozzolio will immediately assume the committee chairmanship. Over 700 bills are reviewed each legislative term by the Senate Codes Committee.
In addition to chairing the Senate Codes Committee, Senator Nozzolio will serve on the following committees: Finance; Rules; Crime Victims, Crime and Correction; Elections, Housing, Construction and Community Development; Investigations and Government Operations; Judiciary; Racing, Gaming and Wagering; and Transportation.
