Senator Neil Breslin Announces Appointment to Legislative Ethics Commission

(Albany, NY) Senator Neil Breslin is honored to announce his recent appointment to the Legislative Ethics Commission.

 The Legislative Ethics Commission was created by the Public Employees Ethics Reform Act of 2007. This legislation expanded the former Legislative Ethics Committee and revised the provisions of the Public Officers Law under the Commission's jurisdiction.

 “As elected officials, we have a responsibility to all New Yorkers to abide by a strict ethical and moral compass,” Senator Breslin said. “I am honored to be appointed as one of the nine members of the Legislative Ethics Commission to ensure that the people of this state continue to regain their trust in state government.”

 The Legislative Ethics Commission's duties include administration and enforcement of the provisions of Public Officers Law §§ 73, 73-a and 74 for members and employees of the legislature and candidates for state legislative office. The Commission is authorized to issue advisory opinions and adjudicate complaints on violations of these laws. The Commission also maintains financial disclosure statements of those who serve or seek to serve in the legislature

 Senator Neil Breslin has been an active member of the New York State Bar Association for decades. His work includes serving as a lecturer on real estate law; editor of the newsletter of the New York State Bar Association General Practice of Law Section from 1980-1984; member of the Executive Committee of the General Practice of Law Section from 1980-1985 and from 1989-1998; chairperson of the General Practice of Law Section from 1993-1994; and member of the House of Delegates of the New York State Bar Association from 1992-1994.

 Senator Breslin has also been a member of the Character and Fitness Committee of the Appellate Division, Third Department since 1987 and was chairman of the Grievance Committee for the Albany County Bar Association from 1985-1993.
