(Albany, NY) Senator Neil D. Breslin (D-Delmar) announced increased funding for Operation IMPACT grants toward multiagency law enforcement in Albany and Rensselaer counties.
“Ensuring that our crime fighters have the tools they need to protect our citizens and communities is one of my top priorities,” Senator Breslin said. “Operation IMPACT has been proven to be a successful tool in preventing gun violence and reducing violent crime.”
Operation IMPACT will see a $863,200 funding increase to boost program resources in Albany County, and a $488,900 increase for Rensselaer County. Police departments in the 17 counties that participate in Operation Impact reported a 9% decrease in index crime in the first four months of 2013 as compared with the same period in the previous year. The FBI’s index crimes include rape, murder, robbery, and aggravated assault, and are used to monitor the effectiveness of enforcement efforts.
“Increases in funding for the Operation IMPACT program in Albany and Rensselaer counties will make our neighborhoods safer places to live and work,” Senator Breslin said.
