Event Will Allow Residents To Dispose Of Unwanted Electronics At No Charge
Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (59th District–Elma) is joining with Sunnking Electronics Recycling, Time Warner Cable and the East Aurora Rotary to host a free electronics recycling event Saturday, January 12th, at the Nativity Lutheran Church, 970 E. Main Street in East Aurora from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The world produces an estimated 50 million tons of E-waste annually, while Americans alone discard nearly 30 million computers each year. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 80 percent of discarded electronics are deposited in landfills or incinerated without being properly recycled.
“We all use electronics on a daily basis, and as technology progresses, we are replacing electronics more and more often. Many people do not realize that cell phones, laptops and other electronic items contain materials that can be hazardous to the environment,” said Senator
Patrick M. Gallivan. “This E-waste recycling event provides a perfect opportunity for people to
quickly and conveniently drop off their used and out-dated electronics to be properly recycled and disposed of .”
“Time Warner Cable is proud to be a partner of such an important ‘green’ event in the Buffalo community,” said Terence Rafferty, Regional VP of Operations, Time Warner Cable of WNY. “Technology has taken on such an important role in our lives and now more than ever, we need to be mindful of the environment as we dispose of these items,” he added.
“This is our third year holding an electronics recycling collection with Sunnking. It has been great to offer this service to the community. As they drive up and drop off items, people are always thankful to have a way of conveniently disposing their electronics in an environmentally responsible way,” said Amy Suda of the East Aurora Rotary.
“Sunnking is excited to team up with all of the partners involved in this event. We see this as a great example of how the public and private sectors can work together to provide a convenient and responsible electronics recycling opportunity for residents,” says Duane Beckett, Chairman/CEO of Sunnking, Inc. “The holiday season is one of the busiest times of year for buying new electronics and we hope that this event will make it easier for everyone to recycle the old gadgets that new ones have replaced.”
Residents can stop by the Nativity Lutheran Church, located at 970 E. Main Street in East Aurora, any time from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12th to drop off their old electronics to one of many trained volunteers that will be on site. Computers (desktops & laptops), printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, televisions (CRT, LCD, LED, plasma), cell phones, IT & networking equipment, medical & lab equipment, communications equipment, phones, servers, monitors (CRT, LCD, LED), MP3 players, PDA's, tablets, ink and toner cartridges will all be accepted. For a complete list of acceptable electronics for recycling visit sunnking.com/acceptable-materials.
Should the weather be inclement, residents will be able to stay in their vehicles and their electronics will be unloaded for them.
Document shredding services will be provided by Shred-it. One box of paper will cost five dollars and three boxes will cost ten dollars. Proceeds collected will benefit East Aurora Rotary Club community projects.
