NY State Police to Offer Exam for the First Time in Five Years

Ritchie Encourages Job Seekers to Apply

State Senator Patty Ritchie is urging those looking to enter the law enforcement field to mark their calendars for the NY State Police Exam; which will be offered this Fall for the first time in five years. 

“Since its establishment in 1917, members of the New York State Police have been known for facing any challenge—big or small—with courage, integrity and efficiency,” said Senator Ritchie.   

“This exam represents a great opportunity for brave men and women who are not only looking for work, but also looking to make a difference.”

The exam will be offered in a total of 19 cities and communities including the following:

October 5: Watertown Dulles State Office Building, 8:30 a.m.

October 12: SUNY Canton, 8:30 a.m.

October 19: Onondaga Community College, 2:00 p.m.

October 26: Fort Drum, 8:30 a.m.

October 26: Onondaga Community College, 2:00 p.m.

October 26: SUNY Canton, 8:30 a.m.

Interested individuals can visit www.troopers.ny.gov to view a full list of exam dates and times, apply for the exam, and view a list of criteria that needs to be met in order to participate. The deadline to apply is September 8^th.

In addition to encouraging individuals to apply for the NY State Trooper exam, Senator Ritchie also urges those looking for work to visit her online jobs bank for updates on other state exams as well as thousands of job listings at private firms across New York State.

With over 4,500 sworn members, and more than 900 non-sworn employees, the New York State Police provides a number of special services including aviation, dedicated interstate patrols, canine patrols, SCUBA, counter terrorism, crime analysis, forensic sciences, forensic crime laboratory, commercial vehicle enforcement, Special Operations Response Team (similar to SWAT), narcotics enforcement teams, violent felony warrant squad, marine unit, crisis negotiation teams, accident reconstructionists, drug recognition experts, mobile command post, major crimes unit, auto theft unit, firearms tracing unit, hazardous materials enforcement, and computer crimes unit.
