Kelly, McCoy To Be Honored At Health & Wellness Fair

State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced Charles W. Kelly, former newspaperman and leader of the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center Task Force, and June McCoy, former president of the Ogdensburg Senior Citizens, as her St. Lawrence County “Senior of the Year” awardees.

The honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony during State Senator Ritchie’s Senior Health and Wellness Fair, taking place at the Ogdensburg Odd Fellows Hall on Wednesday, October 23rd.

“Chuck Kelly has never really retired. He just finds new ways to fight for the people of Northern New York,” Senator Ritchie said. “He led the campaign to protect the Ogdensburg Correctional Facility and now he is leading the battle to save the Psychiatric Center.”

“June McCoy spent decades helping the area’s elderly as the former president of the Ogdensburg Senior Citizens,” Senator Ritchie said. “Her tireless efforts on their behalf helped provide a wide range of activities for the area’s senior citizens.”

“It’s a real pleasure for me to say ‘thanks’ to this year’s awardees for the contributions they have made to our local community throughout their lifetime,” said Senator Ritchie. “I encourage friends of our honorees to join me at my Health and Wellness Fair, where they can not only recognize our Seniors of the Year, but also take advantage of health screenings, giveaways and so much more.”

Senator Ritchie’s St. Lawrence County Senior Health and Wellness Fair will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will feature more than 40 organizations and wellness experts offering health screenings, flu shots and giveaways as well as free lunch and entertainment, both sponsored by Senator Ritchie. Those looking to receive a flu shot are reminded to bring their Medicare and insurance ID to the event.

The St. Lawrence County event marks the last of three Senior Health and Wellness Fairs, which were also hosted in Jefferson and Oswego Counties. So far, more than 1,300 seniors in Central and Northern New York have attended Senator Ritchie’s Senior Health and Wellness Fairs this year.
