A Tougher Bill on Gun Control That Nobody Wants
You should know that I have prefiled one of the toughest and strictest pieces of legislation regarding gun control and increased penalties for the use of illegal firearms. Senate Bill S.1422 apparently has been rejected and ignored by those that are proposing to find a solution to the problem.
My bill: provides an updated description of assault weapons; closes the loophole regarding the possession of large capacity ammunition devices before September 13, 1994; increases the criminal possession of an assault weapon and large capacity ammunition feeding device from a class D to a class B felony; increases penalties for the use, possession and sale of firearms; and, creates the new crime of unlawful possession of a firearm upon school grounds in the first and second degrees.
I hope that Governor Cuomo, Democratic Leader Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and the other Democrats and Legislative Leaders, who have all received a copy of the bill and sponsor’s memo, take a deep and serious look at my bill’s important components as they negotiate a gun control bill that will protect all New Yorkers and will put criminals behind bars.
I am Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz and this is What You Should Know.
