Senator Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) has announced his office will remain open from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Primary Day, Tuesday, September 10, as well as on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, to help constituents who may be confused about their polling site locations or which candidates are running for a particular seat or office. Senator Felder’s office can be reached at 718-253-2015 or via e-mail at felder@nysenate.gov.
“Redistricting has led to polling site changes for many people who may not even be aware of the new locations,” said Senator Felder. “I want to ensure that anyone who wants to go out and vote has the correct information they need to cast a vote.”
Felder is also reminding voters that the old lever-voting machines will be in use for the primary and run-off elections. The Senator co-sponsored legislation to bring back the lever machines for the primary and run-off dates due to the numerous issues with the optical scanners, including jammed or broken scanners; the ballot design and readability issues; lack of privacy; and inadequate access for disabled voters. The electronic scanners will, however, be used again in the general election in November.
“Historically, there has always been a low turnout for primary elections,” explained Senator Felder. “I don’t want people to be discouraged from voting over something as simple as not knowing where to go. That’s something that can be easily addressed by contacting my office.”
