Senator Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) is pleased to announce that HEAP and HeartShare applications are now available at his office for those who meet income guidelines.
“Sadly, so many New Yorkers have trouble paying the high heating costs during the winter months,” said Senator Felder. “Each year, there are tragic stories of home fires and deaths as a result of people using candles or stoves as a substitute for heat. These tragedies can be avoided thanks to programs like HEAP and HeartShare, and I encourage anyone who needs help to call my office.”
HEAP is a federally-funded program for low-income households that supplies heating benefits to help supplement a household’s energy costs. The program also provides emergency benefits for households in a heat or heat-related energy emergency. Additionally, HEAP helps homeowners who need repairs to or replacements of their heating equipment.
HeartShare Human Services of New York administers the Neighborhood Heating Fund founded by National Grid. The fund helps low-income families and individuals with high heating bills meet their monthly payments. Together, National Grid and HeartShare assist over 1,200 families each heating season.
Proof of income, ID, and a past due National Grid heating bill are required to apply. To determine if you are eligible for HEAP and/or HeartShare, or for assistance with completing an application, please call Senator Felder’s office at 718-253-2015. Please note that appointments are necessary.
