Senator O'Brien recognizes "Domestic Violence Awareness Month"

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Today, Senator Ted O’Brien joined Alternatives for Battered Women, the Rochester and Monroe County Domestic Violence Consortium and other local elected officials in recognizing October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month.”

“Domestic and dating violence is a scourge that must be confronted and eliminated,” Senator O’Brien said. “Throughout their lifetimes, domestic and dating violence will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men, and many incidents continue to go unreported. We must continue to insist that such violence will not be tolerated in our community.”

In recognizing October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” Senator O’Brien called attention to the excellent work being done by local advocacy groups.

“Domestic and dating violence is not discriminatory, affecting people from all walks of life. We must make sure that people know that they are not alone, and we are here to support them through these difficult situations,” Senator O’Brien said. “I want to thank Alternatives for Battered Women, the Consortium, and all advocates who fight on behalf of victims.”
