SENATOR TERRY GIPSON DELIVERS $100,000 GRANT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF NEW CENTER FOR THE PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE FACILITY
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) delivered a $100,000 grant that he secured through the New York State Economic Development Assistance Program to the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse that will go towards construction of their new facility. Senator Gipson presented the grant to Executive Director Kathleen Murphy at the center’s groundbreaking ceremony.
“Under the leadership of Kathleen Murphy, and the hard work of so many, the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse has touched the lives of families throughout our community. I am pleased they will now have a new facility worthy of their invaluable services,” said Senator Gipson. “After touring the old facility and meeting with Kathleen, I became aware that they needed this funding to move forward with construction. It is rewarding to have secured this grant to support this great project.”
Founded in 1973, the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse's mission is to end child abuse in Dutchess County. The Center partners with local schools, law enforcement agencies, and the Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services to protect children, advocate on their behalf, and educate the community on how to prevent abuse. Their new facility will be located at 35 Van Wagner Road in Poughkeepsie.
“We are so grateful to Senator Gipson for his dedication to help make this building renovation a reality,” said Murphy. “It takes a community effort to make a project like this come to fruition, and his leadership has been key in making this grant a reality. This grant helps us move into our new home more quickly, which will then enable us to serve more children in a true environment of care, where we can provide multiple services under one roof, in a handicapped-accessible, state-of-the-art building. We thank Senator Gipson very much for securing this $100,000 grant and look forward to continuing to work with him to realize our vision: zero child abuse in Dutchess County.”
