WWII VETERANS GET SPECIAL RECOGNITION AT SENATOR GIPSON'S EVENT
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – On Saturday, September 28, Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) recognized more than 50 WWII veterans who attended his Veterans and Families Fair. Representing a range of branches of the military, these veterans were presented with special lapel pins to identify them and were celebrated by the Senator and all in attendance during the ceremony portion of the event.
“I’m honored that so many WWII veterans attended our Veterans and Families Fair,” Senator Gipson said. “Several wore uniforms and proudly displayed medals which indicated the depth of their commitment and service. It was particularly moving to watch them talking with younger veterans and ROTC members in attendance, sharing their stories. These men and women deserve to be recognized, and it was a privilege to do so at this event,” he added.
The hundreds of veterans, family members and service providers gave the WWII veterans a lengthy standing ovation during the event’s ceremony. Senator Gipson also organized a group photograph with the WWII veterans, which will be sent to each individual.
“The Veterans and Families fair was a huge success, but it was moments like recognizing the men and women who served in WWII that made it special. I’m honored to represent a district with such a great tradition of service,” Senator Gipson concluded.
