Senator O'Mara, Assemblyman Friend will hold a community meeting at the Southport Town Hall later today (Updated, November 13th)

Elmira, N.Y., November 12—New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Chris Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) will hold a community meeting at the Southport Town Hall on Tuesday, November 12, 2013.

The November 12th meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Southport Town Hall (1139 Pennsylvania Avenue).

O’Mara said that he, Friend and the region’s other state assemblymen – Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning), Bill Nojay (R,I-Pittsford) and Joseph Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) -- are planning to hold additional community meetings later this year and throughout 2014 in cities, towns and villages across the remainder of O’Mara’s 58th Senate District, which is comprised of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties, and a portion of Tompkins County (the city and town of Ithaca, and the towns of Enfield, Newfield and Ulysses).  

The local lawmakers said that the meetings are informal and open to the public.  They’re aimed at giving local residents an opportunity to directly share their concerns, opinions and suggestions for better government.  

“We hope area residents will take advantage of these community meetings to contribute to the debates over taxes, economic development, health care, budget reform, Medicaid reform and so many other key issues," O’Mara and Friend said in a joint statement. “Community meetings always offer one of the best and most effective ways for us to receive direct constituent feedback and input.”

The legislators stressed that any local residents unable to attend their November 12th meeting in Southport can contact them directly to seek information or share specific concerns and suggestions.
