Senator Larkin Honors Local Veteran

Warren Craig Nominated to the Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has nominated Warren Craig to the Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame at a ceremony today held in Albany.  Mr. Craig served in the United States Navy and attained the rank of US Navy Water Tender 2nd Class. 

"Warren Craig is an outstanding individual and a true patriot," said Senator Bill Larkin.  "His dedication to his country and fellow veterans is heartfelt and inspiring.  Warren has made it his life's work to ensure that future generations remember the sacrifices made by those who have served their country.  I am proud to nominate Warren to the New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame and I thank him for his service to our country," said Senator Larkin. 

Warren Craig enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 with his parent's consent.  He served on the USS Duncan DD485 which was sunk by the Japanese on October 12th, 1942 and spent 14 hours surviving in shark infested waters until his rescue.  Mr. Craig immediately returned to duty aboard the USS Shubrick DD639 and stayed in the Navy until his discharge at the age of 21 on November 30th, 1945 after obtaining the rank of US Navy Water Tender 2nd Class.  Mr. Craig received many awards and citations for his service including the China Service Medal; Navy Good Conduct Medal; European Campaign Medal; European, African, Mid-Eastern Campaign with 3 Bronze Stars; Asiatic Pacific Campaign with 2 Bronze Stars; WWII Victory Medal; Philippine Liberation Ribbon; Philippine Independence Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal; and the Purple Heart.

Mr. Craig is very active in local veteran's issues and is the member of several veterans' organizations including the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  He was recently honored with a flight on the Hudson Valley Honor Flight where he was one of 87 World War II veterans flown free of charge to visit our nation's monuments and memorials honoring all who served during World War II.
 
The New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.  Their meritorious service to our nation deserves the special recognition that only a Hall of Fame can provide, as a fitting expression of our gratitude and admiration.
