Statement by Senators Larkin and Tkaczyk Urging the Assembly to Reconvene and Pass Ulster County’s Sales Tax Legislation

Senators Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) and Cecilia Tkaczyk (D, Duanesburg) today called on the New York State Assembly to reconvene to pass legislation which would extend Ulster County’s additional 1% sales tax.  Failure by the Assembly to act will result in $26 million in lost revenue to the County, its towns and the City of Kingston.

Senators Larkin and Tkaczyk said:  “The New York State Senate acted in a bipartisan manner to approve Ulster County’s sales tax extender.  We are extremely concerned that the Assembly passed similar extenders for all the other counties in New York, but failed to act upon Ulster County’s request.  We urge the Assembly to reconvene as soon as possible and pass the legislation we sponsored with Assemblyman Frank Skartados to ensure the residents of Ulster County are protected from reduced or eliminated services and a potential increase in property taxes that would result from the Assembly’s failure to act.”
