New Rochelle, NY - State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the Democratic Conference Leader, announced today during a news conference at the New Rochelle Day Nursery School that she was able to cut through legislative red tape to deliver a $12,000 state grant awarded in the 2011-12 Budget year for a new boiler. Senator Stewart-Cousins learned about the problem during her office’s mobile constituent hours in New Rochelle in April.
“As soon as I learned of this lengthy delay in the delivery of this desperately needed funding for a new boiler, I got to work on behalf of my constituents in New Rochelle and was able to resolve the matter. I’m pleased that with my assistance the New Rochelle Day Nursery finally got the grant they were promised, and the children will continue to be warm this winter,” said Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the Democratic Conference Leader.
In April of 2011, the nursery school was informed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services that they were awarded a $12,000 grant. However, a hold was placed on all funding by the Republican-led Senate at the time. The nursery school complied with the application process as outlined yet did not receive the money despite several attempts. Once Senator Stewart-Cousins stepped in, she was able to get the hold on the funding lifted and the grant money released.
“All of us at the New Rochelle Day Nursery are exceedingly grateful for your involvement in delivering the approved $12,000 grant,” said Jeani Miller, President of the Board of Directors at the New Rochelle Day Nursery. “The care and attention taken by you and your staff to ensure the grant’s delivery epitomizes the level of service we hope to obtain from our elected officials.”
The New Rochelle Day Nursery School is a non-profit organization, licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. It was first established in 1895 to meet the needs of working parents or those pursuing their education, the same mission it has today.
