MulchFest 2014 will be celebrated at four locations on Staten Island this weekend, giving residents the opportunity to recycle holiday trees in exchange for a free biodegradable bag of mulch.
On Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can take advantage of "chipping" services provided by Department of Parks & Recreation staff: They will pulverize your tree, and send you off with its wood chips, all free of charge at these four locations:
• Clove Lakes Park, Cheshire Place and Clove Road, Sunnyside
• Conference House Parking Lot, Hylan Boulevard and Satterlee Street
• Midland Beach Parking Lot, Capodanno and Graham Boulevards
• Tappen Park, Bay and Canal Street, Stapleton
As part of MulchFest, holiday trees may also be dropped off for recycling at four other Parks sites on the Island -- on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- although chipping and mulch will not be provided at these locations:
• Father Macris Park, Fahy Avenue and Lamberts Lane, Graniteville
• Silver Lake Tennis House, University Place and Revere Street
• Willowbrook Park, Richmond Avenue and Eton Place
• Wolfe's Pond Park, Cornelia Avenue and Hylan Boulevard
