Residents can get rid of old, unwanted electronics free of charge
OLEAN – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) announced that she has teamed up with e-recycler Sunnking, Time Warner Cable, and student volunteers from the Frewsburg High School Science Squad in offering a free e-recycling event for area residents. The event will take place on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Frewsburg High School, 26 Institute Street, Frewsburg.
“Most of us have old or broken electronics that we no longer use but may be unsure of how to properly and safely dispose of. As we begin sprucing up our homes and gardens for spring cleaning, this event will provide community members with a safe, easy, and environmentally-friendly way of recycling unwanted electronic items lying around our homes.
“Recycling events like this have been wildly successful throughout the state, and I hope our residents take full advantage of it so we can keep our landfills free of hazardous e-waste,” said Senator Young.
Acceptable items include, but are not limited to, laptop and desktop computers, televisions and monitors, printers, scanners, copiers, microwaves, telephones, and other small electronics and appliances. For a full list of accepted items, visit: www.sunnking.com/acceptable-materials.
Half of proceeds raised will be dedicated to the Frewsburg High School Science Squad for an educational field trip to the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The Science Squad provides Frewsburg students with enriching educational opportunities, exposure to career opportunities in science, and a chance to serve their community in ways that are connected to their education.
The Science Squad has also chosen to give half of the proceeds from donated items to the Chautauqua County Humane Society (CCHS). To raise funds for the animals in their care, the CCHS also accepts electronic items at their 2nd Chances Thrift Store, 707 Fairmount Avenue, Jamestown.
