Louis Engel Waterfront Park to Get Environmental Makeover

OSSINING- Senator David Carlucci (D-Westchester/Rockland) along with Ossining Town Supervisor Sue Donnelly, announced a new project intended to conserve water while saving the Town a significant cost for the John V. Chervokas Spray Park at the Louis Engel Waterfront Park in Ossining. Currently, water drained from the spray park is sent into the Hudson River. Failing to recycle this water is a missed opportunity to save most of the nearly $25,000 in annual water bills from this park alone.

Senator Carlucci provided a $100,000 grant to the Town for the purpose of funding a recycling system to treat and re-circulate the water. Town officials estimate the cost of water for the park will decrease to $5,000, a nearly 80% cost savings. 

Senator David Carlucci said, "Working together with the Town of Ossining, we have found a common sense way to save taxpayers a significant amount of money while making sure to protect our environment. I was happy to provide critical funding to this project in order to ensure the park will have a lighter environmental footprint by creating a water recycling system. The system will not only conserve water, it will continue to provide a wonderful place for our children to cool down during the summer.”  

The project is in the first phase of development is projected to start after the summer season.
