Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) visited skateboarding lessons that have been organized by the community group Nyack Needs a Skatepark this week in the municipal lot in the Village of Nyack. The group has worked diligently to raise funds and awareness for the need to build a skatepark in Nyack.
Working with Senator Carlucci, the group received $100,000 in state funding which completed their fundraising goal for the park.
Senator Carlucci said, “Working with my colleagues in the Senate, we were able to secure a grant that will finally let the Village of Nyack complete this project. I want to thank the community for working from the ground up to make this vision a reality."
The group of parents, skate teachers, kids and elected officials celebrated the victory at the last skateboarding lesson of the season.
Parent and activist Sarah Anderson said, "I want to thank Senator Carlucci for being an active member in our effort to build a skatepark here in Nyack. We are so excited that our children will have a place to learn their skills and build meaningful friendships."
Nyack Mayor Jen White said, "Thanks to Senator Carlucci we will be able to start this project right after the winter season. Working together, we have seen some real success here in Nyack for our children."
