On the heels of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement today of a multi-billion dollar infrastructure improvement plan for the state, Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is strongly urging that monies from this initiative be directed to Niagara County to help repair and upgrade the Niagara Falls and Lockport wastewater treatment plants. These facilities suffered extensive damage as a result of severe rains and flooding events that occurred in June and July of 2013.
The $16 billion plan announced in Albany this afternoon during a meeting with Vice President Joe Biden included $1.6 billion earmarked specifically for repairing and improving wastewater treatment plants.
“This money is urgently needed in order to ensure that the health and safety of the citizens of my district is prevented, and also that the wastewater treatment facilities in Lockport and Niagara Falls are better prepared to meet the challenges that future dangerous weather patterns may present,” Senator Maziarz wrote in a letter sent to Governor Cuomo today.
A copy of the letter is attached.
