Senator Farley Salutes Joseph Chan

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of presenting a New York State Citation to Joseph Chan recently upon Mr. Chan’s retirement. Senator Farley’s Citation is the following:
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging significant milestones in the distinguished careers of its esteemed residents; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Chan celebrated his retirement in April of 2014, after 37 years of owning and operating the Dragon Garden restaurant; and
WHEREAS, Joe was born on June 10, 1941, in Canton, China; and
WHEREAS, He moved to Hong Kong at the age of 17; it was here he began to learn English: and
WHEREAS, Joe came to the United States in 1972, and lived with his cousin in Huntsville, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, He moved to Troy in 1975 and worked in his cousin Tommy’s restaurant, China Inn; and
WHEREAS, Joe opened his own restaurant, Dragon Garden, in 1977, after purchasing Gibbon’s Diner; and
WHEREAS, He refurbished the restaurant in 1995 and opened one of the first Chinese buffets in the Capital District; and
WHEREAS, After a long and successful career, Joe sold Dragon Garden to his niece and her family in April of 2014; they will continue it as Asia Bistro restaurant; and
WHEREAS, He also owned and operated Sahr’s Poultry Farm from 1986 until 2002; and
WHEREAS, Joe and his loving wife, Nancy, are the proud parents of Joe, Joyce, and Gary Chan; and
WHEREAS, Joe is a respected businessman, and Dragon Garden has long been renowned for its exceptional food, charming atmosphere, and reasonable prices; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That as a duly elected member of the New York State Senate, I take this opportunity to congratulate Joseph Chan upon the occasion of his well-deserved retirement and to wish him health and happiness.
