Senator Hugh T. Farley announces legislation to designate Ballston Lake as an inland waterway has been signed into law

State Senator Hugh T. Farley and Assemblyman Jim Tedisco announce their legislation to designate Ballston Lake as an inland waterway has been signed into law. This designation will allow the Towns of Ballston and Clifton Park to participate in New York’s Coastal and Inland Waterway Program. Earlier this year, both towns passed resolutions in support of designating the Lake as an inland waterway.

Senator Hugh T. Farley said “I was pleased to work with both Towns in passing this legislation. The Inland Waterway program seeks to encourage the beneficial use, revitalization and protection of a community’s water resources. This designation is an important step in enabling these two communities to seek and obtain state financial assistance for projects that will benefit the lake and local residents.”

“This new law will help the towns of Ballston and Clifton Park apply for grant funding to protect and revitalize Ballston Lake, which is such a wonderful natural resource in the 112th Assembly District and 49th Senate District that should be preserved for future generations to enjoy,” said Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (R,C,I-Glenville).

In their resolutions, the towns recognized that the lake is an important natural resource, which serves as both a primary source of drinking water for many families as well as a recreational resource. Communities along a designated “inland waterway” are encouraged to develop waterfront revitalization programs, and are eligible to apply for funding to develop and implement such programs.

The bill was signed into law on August 11th as Chapter 308 of the Laws of 2014. It took effect immediately.
