Senator Martins Applauds Governor Cuomo for Directing Mta & Lirr Workers Back to the Negotiating Table
Jack M. Martins
July 16, 2014
“Governor Cuomo calling on the MTA and LIRR workers to go back to the negotiating table is a welcome step towards averting a LIRR strike.
We have been urging the Governor to bring both sides back to the table, and I thank him for doing so. A LIRR strike would be a disaster, would paralyze Long Island’s transportation infrastructure and cause up to $50 million in economic losses a day. Every Long Islander will be impacted, whether they commute or not. I thank the Governor for listening.
This is a positive step, but we are not out of the woods yet. I hope the Governor will continue his efforts personally to help both sides break the logjam and reach an agreement, before a strike occurs.”
