Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) and the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) today teamed up to provide services to homeowners facing foreclosure.
Senator Martins arranged for DFS to bring its Mobile Command Center to the Westbury Library, where trained DFS specialists provided individualized assistance to homeowners in need.
As part of the program, DFS staff members met one-on-one with homeowners to assist them in their efforts to obtain loan modifications and other relief; provide information on available federal programs; inform them about their rights and answer questions about the foreclosure process; and help them seek resolutions with banks and mortgage servicers and take complaints about suspected predatory lending or other abuses.
Homeowners who were unable to take advantage of the program but are in need of assistance can call DFS’ foreclosure hotline at 1-800-342-3736 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
