Senator Martins Secures State Funding for Children’s Room Renovation at Port Washington Library

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured $150,000 state funding for a major improvement project at the Port Washington Library. 

     The Library will use the state funding to help offset the costs of renovating its children’s room. According to the Library, the existing children’s room is severely overcrowded, lacks the flexibility needed for the many uses it accommodates, and is struggling to keep up with the demands of a growing population and changing technology. The new room will offer books, dedicated spaces for creative projects, a workshop, music stations, quiet study area, a recycling center, a play and discovery area, and a dedicated section for “tweens” (5th & 6th graders).

     “The Port Washington Library does a wonderful job serving families, so well in fact that they need to modernize and revitalize their children’s room to accommodate the growing need. These improvements will benefit an entire new generation of Port Washington children, and I am pleased to help support this community improvement project,” said Senator Martins.

The Library considers this the most important project it will undertake applying new learning and technological advances to enhance the many ways that children learn,” said Port Washington Library Director Nancy Curtin.
