Seward Bill To Change Fire District Lines Signed By Governor
James L. Seward
August 18, 2014
ALBANY, 08/18/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced legislation he sponsored, authorizing the Middletown-Hardenburgh fire district to extend the district into the Village of Margaretville, has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo.
“Margaretville, Middletown, and Hardenburgh have worked together for some time to ensure area homes and businesses have excellent fire protection,” said Senator Seward. “Taking this legislative step will simply formalize the long-standing working agreement between the villages, towns, and the fire-district.”
Senator Seward’s bill (S.6408C/A.9111A) follows a home rule request from the towns of Hardenburgh and Middletown, the Village of Margaretville, and the Middletown-Hardenburgh Fire District and was sponsored in the state assembly by Assemblyman Pete Lopez.
Along with authorizing the extension of the fire district to include the Village of Margaretville, the new law will also give village residents a vote on the fire district board.
The law will take effect immediately.
