August 18, 2014
ALBANY, 08/18/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced legislation he sponsored, allowing the Town of Cortlandville to acquire a parcel of land for park purposes, has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo.
“This legislation clears the way for new recreational opportunities for residents of Cortlandville and the surrounding communities at little or no cost to the town,” said Senator Seward. “As we continue to search for affordable, environmentally sound family activities, more and more people turn to our parks. This is a great way to showcase our natural beauty and get more people outdoors.”
Senator Seward’s bill (S.7276B/A.10050A) allows Cortlandville to transfer 6.1 acres of current parkland along New York State Route 281 to Gutchess Lumber Company in exchange for 90 acres of land for park purposes.
A home rule request from the Town of Cortlandville prompted the legislation which was sponsored in the state assembly by Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton.
The law will take effect immediately.
