Seward Bills For Cortland County Receive Senate Backing
James L. Seward
June 19, 2014
ALBANY, 06/18/14 – The New York State Senate has passed a pair of bills sponsored by Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) with special meaning to Cortland County.
Senate bill 7059 would allow county clerks to receive and retain maps utilizing electronic means.
“The bill updates state law to give county clerks the option to file, accept, and preserve digital map records,” said Senator Seward. “The legislation would improve efficiencies in county clerks’ offices, enhance security, save money for taxpayers, and provide a new convenience for those who need to access the maps. Cortland County Clerk Elizabeth Larkin developed this resourceful idea in her role as president of the New York State County Clerks’ Association.”
Senate bill 7276B would allow the Town of Cortlandville to acquire approximately 90 acres of land for park purposes. A home rule request from the Town of Cortlandville prompted the legislation.
“This bill clears the way for new recreational opportunities for residents of Cortlandville and the surrounding communities at little or no cost to the town. As we continue to search for affordable, environmentally sound family activities, more and more people turn to our parks. This is a great way to showcase our natural beauty and get more people outdoors,” said Seward.
The bill will allow Cortlandville to transfer 6.1 acres of current parkland along New York State Route 281 to Gutchess Lumber Company in exchange for 90 acres of land for park purposes.
Both bills have been sent to the assembly where Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton sponsors companion legislation to both bills.
