SHERBURNE, 07/26/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today joined in the grand opening of the Sherburne Historic Park Society’s new museum building and announced a $50,000 state grant he secured to help with construction costs.
“The Town of Sherburne is a picture perfect example of upstate New York life with a rich history and traditions all its own,” said Senator Seward. “This new museum will serve as a testament to Sherburne’s past while adding to the quality of life for residents and offering tourists another reason to visit Sherburne - a plus for our local businesses.”
The capital funding secured by Senator Seward has been used to help fund the construction of a new museum building in Sherburne Historic Park. The 40 x 60 foot structure will be home to a number of Sherburne artifacts including a 1936 Sandford Fire Truck, The Sherburne News-Babcock Optimus printing press, and signs from area businesses. The museum also has space for future acquisitions.
Town of Sherburne Supervisor Charles Mastro said, “Senator Seward has been a strong supporter of this project from the start. We appreciate his advocacy and the state’s investment in Sherburne’s history and future.”
Sherburne Historic Park Society Vice President Charlotte Sherwood said, “This new museum building will greatly enhance our mission – to promote, protect and preserve the history of our area and its people. Senator Seward’s assistance has helped us write a new chapter in Sherburne’s storied history.”
“It is vital that we protect and nurture our history for future generations to learn from and enjoy. This new museum will fulfill that undertaking and serve as a Sherburne focal point for generations to come,” Senator Seward concluded.
