Seward Tops NFIB Legislative Scorecard

ONEONTA, 08/22/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) has received top marks from leading small business advocacy group, the National Federation of International Business (NFIB).

“Small businesses are among New York’s top employers and to keep them on top it is crucial that state government partner with these job creators,” said Senator Seward.  “I am committed to advancing legislation that helps create an atmosphere conducive to job creation – cutting business taxes, lowering energy costs, and eliminating unnecessary government regulations.” 

Senator Seward’s score of 91 was the top mark issued in the senate, tying him with Senator Lee Zeldin.  The NFIB scores are based on each legislator’s voting record on key business issues.  The announcement from NFIB comes just after Unshackle Upstate, another leading business advocacy group, released a scorecard with Senator Seward scoring a perfect grade of 100.

Mike Durant, NFIB New York State director said, “We applaud the legislators that scored well this cycle and appreciate their effort on behalf of small business.” 

“While some pro-job bills have been signed into law, the sad truth is that the state assembly has failed to even vote on many needed measures.  Legislation that would promote rural broadband access through tax credits, stop unfair tax audits of retailers, and force a study on health insurance mandates would all have a positive impact on New York’s employment picture, if the assembly would join the senate and approve these measures,” Senator Seward concluded.
