(Far Rockaway) – New York State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Queens) commented on today’s announcement by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio that the city’s federally funded Temporary Disaster Assistance Program (TDAP) will now be available to low earning residents displaced by Superstorm Sandy who need help with paying their rent.
Sanders remarked, “Today is a victory for compassion and common sense. The storm weary survivors who managed to find long-term housing after being uprooted by Sandy have been crushed under the weight of rental fees that cost them no less than forty-percent of their take-home-pay. I welcome Mayor de Blasio’s announcement that the program’s expansion to these citizens will be swift, and I will be especially vigilant in making certain the residents of my district will suffer no delay in receiving this assistance.”
