BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced Friday that three New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) complexes in his district will receive a total of $3,710,000 in capital funding that he secured in this year’s state budget. The monies are slated for the Sack Wern, Pelham Parkway and Throgs Neck Housing complexes and will be used for much needed upgrades aimed at improving the living conditions, safety and lifestyle of the residents who call these complexes home.
State Senator Jeff Klein said: “Securing money for the Sack Wern, Pelham Parkway and Throgs Neck Houses this year was a top priority of mine. The residents of these buildings were in need of long overdue upgrades to their kitchen facilities, required additional safety lighting and requested help with their grounds. These improvements will go a long way to not only enhancing the quality of life for these working families, but ensuring their safety as well.”
Councilmember Ritchie Torres (D-Bronx) said: "The residents of public housing--including my own mother who lives in Throgs Neck Houses -- have a powerful ally in State Senator Jeff Klein. I thank the Senator for his commitment to improving the amenities and living conditions for thousands of tenants. It has been years since NYCHA has seen funding from the state. The Senator's commitment of $3.7 million in capital grants is the beginning of a new era of state reinvestment in public housing."
Lilithe Lozano, District Chair, NYCHA Residents’ Associations said: “I am so appreciative to Senator Klein because throughout his entire career he has demonstrated true leadership in improving the lives of his constituents.”
The state allocation of more than $3.7 million will be dispersed as follows:
*$1.5 Million for construction and improvement to the Throgs Neck Houses related to the construction of a baseball field.
*$410,000 for renovations and improvements in the Sack Wern complex, including replacement of appliances such as stoves and refrigerators.
*$2.1 Million to install safety lighting in common areas at Pelham Parkway Houses. This lighting will increase safety for the residents as well as allow better visibility for the recently-added security cameras.
