BRONX, NY  - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), joined by Animal Care & Control of NYC, announced that the Bronx is slated to receive its very own new mobile pet adoption center. The vehicle will be made possible through a $250,000 grant secured by Senator Klein in this year’s state budget and be one of two that AC&C utilizes to bring pets to people citywide. The addition of the mobile adoption center will enable AC&C to promote pet adoptions to even more homes throughout the Bronx.

“The safe and quality care of animals has always been a top priority of mine and nobody does it better than Animal Care and Control of New York City. The sweet animals they have in their care deserve happy homes and with this new mobile pet adoption vehicle we’ll connect those animals to more loving Bronx families,”said State Senator Jeff Klein.

“The new Mobile Adoption Center will enable AC&C to have a greater presence in the Bronx, and enhance our ability to find loving homes for our wonderful cats and dogs,” said Risa Weinstock, executive director of Animal Care & Control of NYC. “All of us at AC&C are grateful to Senator Klein for his support and his clear commitment to NYC animals.”

The announcement was made as part of the Riverdale Children’s Musical Festival in Seton Park on Sunday afternoon. Cats and dogs were available for adoption on the premises, via the existing mobile adoption center, as part of the festivities.

Currently the AC&C Bronx location is only equipped to serve as a receiving center, not a full service shelter, and therefore does not accommodate adoptions. Animals can be surrendered at the Bronx location, but are then transferred to other locations for adoption. The new mobile pet adoption center, dedicated solely to the Bronx, will  help facilitate more adoptions in the borough.

Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country, taking in approximately 30,000 animals each year. AC&C is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that rescues, cares for and finds loving homes for animals throughout the five boroughs. AC&C has a contract with the City of New York to be an open-admissions organization, which means it never turns away any homeless, abandoned, injured or sick animal in need of help, including cats, dogs, rabbits, small mammals, reptiles, birds, farm animals and wildlife. It is the only organization in NYC with this unique responsibility. Visit http://www.nycacc.org for more information, and follow AC&C at facebook.com/NYCACC and @NYCACC.
