BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeffrey Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined Bronx school administrators and parent coordinators to kick-off the new school year and celebrate the success of Project BOOST (Building Options and Opportunities for Students) Thursday night at a dinner held at F & J Pine restaurant. At the event, parents and principals thanked Senator Klein for securing $700,000 for the program which works to expand the education elementary and middle school students receive through extracurricular activities in a number of Bronx schools.
“Project BOOST is a fantastic program and I am delighted that I was able to secure the state funding to help make it happen. By offering our stellar students these extra opportunities we open up a whole new world for many of them and create a richer and more memorable learning experience. I want to thank all the parents and administrators for their commitment to this program, which will benefit hundreds of students for many years to come,” said Senator Jeff Klein.
“Project Boost has given schools the opportunity to be creative with teaching and learning outside of the traditional classroom setting by providing educational trips to museums, Broadway shows, college campuses and unique eating experiences at local restaurants. This has proven to be a valuable and instrumental component of our children’s academic, cultural and social growth. Project Boost affords an added component of parent participation in the activities, which has also been proven to be a positive influence on our children’s attitude toward education and learning. I want to thank Senator Klein for all his support and hard work in securing the necessary funding for this great program," said Carl Vinci, Project BOOST Administrator.
At the dinner, principals welcomed back parent coordinators for a new school year and discussed information about how the program will work in the upcoming year.
Project BOOST (Building Options and Opportunities for Students) is a program targeted at elementary and middle school students who have demonstrated academic talent but come from disadvantaged neighborhoods where they may not have the opportunity to develop their talent. Currently, Project BOOST includes 60 elementary and middle schools, serving more than 700 students in grades four through eight throughout New York City.
