Senator Jeff Klein Honors Bronx Resident Salvatore J. Conforto as Newest Inductee into the New York State Veterans Hall of Fame

ALBANY, NY - Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) today paid tribute to his nominee, Salvatore J. Conforto, as becoming the newest member to be selected to the New York State Senate's Veteran's Hall of Fame. The prestigious honor is bestowed upon local residents throughout the state for their patriotic service in the U.S. Armed Forces and complemented by their service to their community. 

Senator Klein said: "Sal Conforto's life journey is the very epitome of the American Dream.  Through his own actions, he has dedicated his life's work to protecting our basic freedoms here at home and abroad. His passion for public service has never wavered and he continues to this day to be an inspiration and role model for his own community. It is with humility that we nominate this remarkable individual to be one of the selective few who gain entry into this Hall of Fame class."

Salvatore immigrated with his family from Sicily, Italy, to the United States. He was drafted and served his nation in the U.S. Army, where he served abroad in South Korea and was the recipient of several medals including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the National Defense Medal. Upon leaving the Armed Forces, he continued his service to his country as a civilian, working for 20 years as a New York City corrections officer and, to this day, is an active member of Bronx Community Board 11 and other various clubs.
