Klein, Gjonaj, Community and Faith Leaders, Seniors and Families Join Together to Celebrate the First Night of Hanukkah
BRONX, NY – State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), together with Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj (D-Bronx), community and faith leaders, friends and family celebrated the first night of Hanukkah on the evening of December 16th, lighting a ten-foot menorah at Bronx House, Einstein Hospital and White Plains Road and Pelham Parkway South. The celebration marked the group’s 20th annual menorah lighting ceremonies.
“On Hanukkah we celebrate, honor and remember miracles both big and small with the lighting of the menorah. I am delighted to lead this special tradition each year and be joined by Assemblyman Gjonaj, Rabbi Greenberg, Brad Silver and local Bronx families in this joyous festivity,” said Senator Klein. “Warm wishes to all those who are celebrating and a happy holiday to everyone.”
"Hanukkah is a special time for many families in my community and I am happy to celebrate in all cornerstones of my district,” said Assemblyman Gjonaj.
Throughout the celebration, Bronxites enjoyed the traditional chocolate gelt, light snacks and refreshments. After the first menorah lighting, guests and attendees made their way to Einstein hospital in a spirited procession. At sundown, communities members lit the third menorah at White Plains Road and Pelham Parkway South, celebrating the miracle of Hanukkah.
