Senator Klein Honors NIDC Director of Housing and Community Development & Community Leader, Hazel Miura, at 17th Annual Women of Distinction Celebration

ALBANY, NY – Senator Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) honored Hazel Miura, Director of Housing and Community Development at the Neighborhood Initiatives Development Corporation at the 17th Annual Womenof Distinction celebration that took place on the evening of Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Born and raised in the Bronx, Ms. Miura has been a community activist for more than 25 years, starting as a crime prevention coordinator, moving up to a family case manager, before assuming her current post. In her current position, Ms. Miura assists tenants in housing court, coordinates educational workshops for residents and focuses on preventing and addressing quality of life issues for hundreds of Bronx residents.

 

Ms. Miura also volunteers as an auxiliary police lieutenant for the NYPD, serves as the treasurer for the 49th Precinct Community Council, is on the board of Community Board 11 and is an Executive Board Member for the Allerton/Pelham Parkway community mobile patrol.

 

Senator Klein said: “Hazel Miura’s tireless work in our community makes her a clear choice for this year’s Woman of Distinction. In her role as Director of Housing and Community Development, Hazel has empowered local Bronxites through education and advocacy. In her spare time, Hazel builds on her career in public service by serving on Community Board 11, the 49th Precinct Community Council and the Allerton/Pelham Parkway community board patrol. We are privileged to have leaders like Hazel Miura serving our local community. She is truly an inspiration for all New Yorkers.”
