Monies to go towards repairs to Town pump stations damaged in recent super storms, and the purchase of a generator to keep the water stations and plants operating in a power outage
Senator John Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope) announces that the Town of Wawarsing has been awarded $100,000 in funding from the State & Municipal Facilities Capital Program.
The project details call for repairs to pump stations in Kerhonkson and Napanoch that sustained damage from the super storms that hit the area in 2011 and 2012. Funds would also go towards the purchase of a portable generator that would allow the sewer pump stations, sewer plants, and water treatment plants to operate in the event of a power outage.
“We were hit very hard here in Wawarsing by flooding from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in 2011, and then Super Storm Sandy in the fall of 2012,” said Supervisor Leonard Distel. “Water pumps were under water, and control panels had major damage. Also, the hamlets of Napanoch and Kerhonkson are occasionally cut off by flooding and out of power. Thanks to Senator Bonacic, we can make these repairs and be in better shape when the next storm hits.”
“Mother nature was hard on some of our areas, and I’m pleased to help the Town of Wawarsing to make these repairs, and be ready to keep workers and residents safe before she strikes again,” said Senator Bonacic. ###
