Senator Bonacic invites residents and families to learn preparedness training in the event of a natural or man-made disaster at the Citizen Preparedness Training Program to be held on Saturday, June 7 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at SUNY Sullivan, Grossinger Dining Room, Statler Hall, 112 College Road, Loch Sheldrake, NY.
The Citizen Preparedness Training Program provides an introduction to how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. Trainers will supply information on organizations that can provide additional support, as well as how to register for NY-Alert (the free, statewide emergency alert system), and how to be aware of notifications from the Emergency Broadcast System.
“Knowing what to do the moment a disaster strikes can be a life saver,” says Senator Bonacic. “Our area has been hit hard in the past by events we never thought we’d have to face. I hope residents and families, and those that work with the public, will take advantage of this free event to learn what to do to keep their families, and their community, safe in an emergency.”
Every training participant will receive a free Citizen Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit (one per family), which includes basic supplies such as batteries, first aid kit, and flashlight.
Space is limited, participants are required to register in advance at www.prepare.ny.gov.
