Monies to go towards joint project to alleviate traffic flow and ease flooding
Senator John Bonacic (R/I/C – Mt. Hope) announces that the Town and Village of Walton have been awarded $100,000 in funding from the State & Municipal Facilities Capital Program.
The funding will go towards a joint project between the Town and Village of Walton to purchase and remove an abandoned building on Main Street and use the property for multiple purposes including a sitting park for residents and visitors to enjoy on their visit to the Town.
“The property that we would like to purchase a dilapidated building that would cost too much to renovate up to code,” said Town Supervisor Bruce Dolph, “This project would allow us to work with the Village to protect Main Street businesses from future flood damage, and we thank Senator Bonacic for allowing us to complete this important joint project.”
Village Mayor, Ed Snow says, “This is a vacant building that we’d like to knock down and make a connection between Delaware Street and Water Street. This connection would allow us to alleviate the large traffic flow on Delaware Street, and when property is graded, it would allow storm water to escape. Thank you, Senator Bonacic for this funding to help both municipalities to fix this area.”
“I am so pleased to secure this funding for the Village and Town of Walton so they can work together on a shared goal of revitalizing their Main Street,” said Senator Bonacic, “It’s a good idea to remove this broken down building that could, in fact, become a danger to residents.”
