Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) is joining Long Island Cares for its 3rd Annual Legislative Food Drive Challenge. This year, the organization is focusing its efforts on collecting pet food to ensure that the most vulnerable members of Long Island families are able to get the food they need.
Long Island Cares created Baxter’s Pet Pantry in 2009, in partnership with the Animal Relief Fund Inc. (ARF), in an effort to make supplies available to pet-owning families in need in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. In addition to providing pet food, the Pet Pantry offers toys, pet clothes and other supplies to Long Island families in need.
Long Island Cares will accept donations for all types of family pets including dogs, cats, fish, birds and others. The organization has stated that its most needed pet items are:
- Wet/Dry Dog Food
- Wet/Dry Cat Food
- Dog and Cat Treats
- Collars and Leashes
- Bird Seed
- Fish Food
- Cat Litter
- Small New Toys
Senator Flanagan’s office has begun collecting pet supplies as part of this annual food drive in the Smithtown district office, which is located at 260 Middle Country Road. Donations will be accepted during regular business hours from now through March 31st.
“Pets are important members of Long Island families. Long Island Cares is a great organization that works hard to put food on the tables of those in need and this is another way for them to reach out to help our residents during tough economic times. My office is proud to join them for the 3rd Annual Legislative Food Drive Challenge and it is my hope that we can help deliver some needed relief for the families in our community,” stated Senator Flanagan.
